SPOTLIGHT: Protection Detail by Sean Michael @seanmichael09 #BDSM #romancebooks #LGBT

It took me two years to finally get Dustin and King’s story written for the Underground Series, but I finally had a chance to do it and I’m happy with how it came out. I hope the Protection Detail guys liked as much as the guys from Special Teams and Emergency Services.

Thank you to Jessica for hosting a post for Protection Detail!

Dom Dustin Lefevre works hard and plays harder. He attends the Underground Club whenever he can and is always very much in demand by the unattached subs. After one such evening, he runs into King Tamber, the Dom who taught him everything he knows. King and Dustin parted ways after several years of King teaching Dustin how to be the best Dom he can be.

Now, King has come back into Dustin’s life with a new proposal. He wants to recreate Dustin’s club scenes with Dustin in the submissive role. Dustin doesn’t understand why King would want to do scenes with him again, but King is very persuasive and Dustin finds that he can’t resist. Now all Dustin has to do is figure out how to continue without having his heart broken.

Meanwhile, King has regretted parting ways with Dustin every day. Seeing Dustin working the subs at the club has given him an idea of how he can connect with Dustin again. He knows he screwed up with Dustin when they last parted and he can only hope that through his new plan, he can woo Dustin and ensure they both get the happy ending they deserve.

“I don’t understand, King. What’s up?” They didn’t have that sort of… friendship… anymore.

“The new rule is that whatever you do in a scene at the club, I’ll do to you.”

“What?” He shook his head. “Stop playing around.”

“I’m not playing, Dusty. I think it would be good for you to go through what you put your subs through. It reminds you of how intense this is for them. Reminds you what each of the sensations is.”

“I’m a good Dom!” Was that what this was about? Had someone complained about him? If they had, how come Daniel or Chris hadn’t come to him?

Fuck.

Fuck.

He’d thought the Underground was a place he was wanted, welcomed. He played all over and no one had been weird; subs always wanted to play with him.

King reached out and took his hand. “Stop. I can see your mind going a million miles an hour. This isn’t because you’ve done anything wrong. Quite the contrary, you’re an amazing Dom. I bet if you asked the subs to line up in front of either you or me, you’d have the longer line. This is entirely between you and me.” King sat back as their waitress brought their drinks.

“Your burgers’ll be up soon.”

“Thanks.” King nodded to her, then sat forward again, resuming his explanation. “This is about you and me.”

“You and me?” There was no him and King. Hadn’t ever been. Not really. “What are you up to? I know the subs tonight would want you.” He didn’t understand.

“I’m not doing it because I think I’m unlovable or anything like that, Dusty. I believe it would be an interesting experiment. Fascinating, even. I’m a Dom’s Dom after all.”

“I’m not… That’s not for me, man.” Christ, that was still creepy, how King always knew what he was thinking. He’d never figured that out.

One of King’s eyebrows went up. “Liar.” That was all he said. That one word and one eyebrow, the look in King’s eyes.

“King…” This was totally not what he had expected out of his day, out of this scene.

“Are you telling me that the idea doesn’t have any appeal whatsoever?” King sounded like he didn’t think that could possibly be true.

“I don’t bottom anymore, King. Ever.”

“Of course not—you’re a Dom. You don’t bottom for subs. I’m not a sub. But if you’re honest with yourself, you’ll admit you want to abide by my new rule.”

The coffee and Coke were on the table, and he hid in the steam, in the familiar actions of adding a bit of cream to his coffee. He wasn’t used to this anymore—this uncertainty, this confusion.

King lounged there, watching him, not letting him escape that piercing gaze.

“So what brought this up?” he finally asked.

“Honestly? I miss you. I miss what we had.”

“But I’m not a Dom-in-training anymore. You said yourself that we were getting too intense.” Dustin hadn’t been the one to decide he had learned all he could from King.

“We were getting extremely intense. But I was wrong to think that was a bad thing. I can keep you sharp, keep you on your toes. I can remind you that every now and then you need to fly too.”

“This was not a discussion I’d expected to have, my friend. Not ever.” He knew King, and the man was not the kind of guy to change his mind about things.

“It’s not one I’d expected to have, either. But like I said, I miss you. I miss our intensity. I want to do this. I want to watch you do a scene with a sub, and then I want to do it with you.”

“So what, once a month we have a scene?” Because King didn’t know about the Friday night club. Or the Saturday night club. “I don’t know, man. I’m not sure I’m up for bottoming.” Besides, he didn’t have sex with his subs. He wanted to share orgasms with King, not scenes.

“Whenever you do a scene, you come see me and tell me about it. We get our rocks off over it, then the next night, I do you in the same scene. It’s win-win.”

“No way. You see me do a scene, then we can talk about it,” he countered.

“I see you do a scene, we talk about it, we get off, I do you in the same scene.” It looked like King wasn’t budging on doing the scene with him in the sub role.

“If I safeword, we’re done, and no matter what, we’re still friends afterward.” He’d just safeword and let King get over this nonsense. He didn’t want to lose a chance to… “You know what, no. No, this is a dumb idea.”

“The safeword is sacrosanct, of course I’d stop, and we’d still be friends. But it isn’t a dumb idea. Not at all. It’s a way for us to play, Dusty. Don’t you want to play with me?” King asked.

“Yeah. I’ve missed you, man.” But King knew that.

“Then let’s play. Let’s make the new rule. Let’s get intense,” King said.

“I still think this is a dangerous idea.”

“I know it’s a dangerous idea. That’s a part of the appeal.” King’s voice had gone a little rough, like talking about this was turning him on.

“So how many other men have you tried this pitch on?” He wasn’t sure what the hell King’s endgame was, but he wanted to know.

King’s eyebrows drew down, that slight roughness turning into something deeper. “Just you.”

“Don’t get all growly on me, man. You show up after telling me we had to take the ‘with benefits’ off our description and the first thing you want is to add it back on.”

“Have you never made a mistake, Dusty?” King asked.

He snorted. “Shit, man. I am the king of learning from my mistakes.”

“Then let me learn from mine. Let’s do this.”

“If you see me in a scene, we talk, we get off. Then, if we agree, we re-enact.” After all, he wanted to get off with King. They’d always been good together.

King shook his head. “No. I want the scene guaranteed.”

Christ, that made him squirmy. Dustin gave King a long look. “You swear no one put you up to this?”

“Dusty. I am not the type of man who lets anyone ‘put me up’ to anything. You know that. This is me. All me.”

He searched those grey eyes, so dark, so sure. “You are the most crazy-making man alive.”

King grinned. “I might have heard that a time or two. From you.”

“It’s still true.”

Their food arrived, two plates with big juicy burgers and large sides of fries. “You let me know if you need anything else,” the waitress told them.

“We will.” King nodded, then put a hand on Dustin’s when he went to grab a fry. “Let’s settle this before we eat.”

“I want it on record that I think this is going to be weird.” He was a Top. Period. He wasn’t a switch. He didn’t want a Dom.

“I have no problem with you thinking it’s weird. As long as you agree to the rule, I’m good with it.”

“You see the scene, we talk, we get off, we re-enact. This once.”

King shook his head. “No. Not once. Every time.”

Dustin’s lips opened, closed, a thousand thoughts running through his head.

King leaned forward. “Give me a year. Twelve months and then we can revisit.”

“A year?” What? King was home for a month? Maybe two? And King only knew about the monthly Underground meetings, not the others. So he’d make sure any scenes there were easy, and he’d get a chance to get off with his fantasy man.

“That’s right—twelve months.” King still had hold of his hand, the heat searing, burning into his skin.

“This is a mistake.” He was hard as a rock.

“If you really believed that, you’d have given me a flat-out no when we first started this conversation.”

“Blame it on the shock. One year. Can we just eat now?”

“We totally can.” King sat back and grabbed a fry, munching away.

Against the Wall (A Bad Boy Romance) by Harley Wylde

Series: Bad Boy Romance
Publisher: Changeling Press
Genres: Contemporary Romance/New Adult

Grady:

Handyman and heartbreaker. I’m damn good at my job. While my hands have been occupied building a deck for the delectable Madlyn Sparks, what I’ve really wanted to do was trace every one of her curves with my tongue. I bet with just one touch she’d go up in flames. My dick’s been harder than a damn post since I took this job, but I learned the hard way not to fuck myself out of a paycheck. But once this job is done, all bets are off.

Madelyn:

Grady has done a fantastic job on the deck, but I didn’t really hire him for his carpentry skills. The man is fine as hell and I’ve wanted to take him for a ride ever since I saw him on my doorstep. Never in my wildest dreams did I think getting attacked would bring us closer together. He went from hunky handyman to overprotective bodyguard in an instant, and now that we’re living under the same roof, I just can’t keep my hands off him. Just one problem… now that I’ve had him, I never want to let him go.

He’s certain each mistake is a step closer to being sent away. No punishment could ever hurt as much as Mr. Johns giving up on him.

Excerpt

“Michael, come to me.”

Her voice has that silky tone that always sets my heart to pounding. Today is the day and I have no idea what to expect. I rise gracefully to my feet in one smooth motion as I’ve been taught. Standing straight with my shoulders back, my chest out and chin up, I walk directly to her, my eyes remaining straight ahead.

The man standing with her is taller than I am, about 6’3”. He’s built bigger than I am and I suspect he’s older than me though I’m nineteen so that isn’t a surprise. I can feel his eyes inspecting me.

My nerves are getting the best of me but I don’t move. I control my breathing and wait for my next command. Domme Shannon told me that she had found a male Dominate she believes I’m compatible to serve. I had been stunned and I’m not entirely comfortable with belonging to a man. My family wouldn’t ever accept it. But I’d requested that she find a Dominant she believes will be best for me, regardless of gender.

“Come, Michael,” Domme Shannon says, leading me from the small, sparsely decorated bedroom. She and the man walk casually in front of me, letting me get small glimpses of him. He’s muscular with dark brown hair the same shade as mine. He’s wearing an expensive suit but I can’t spend much time looking him over. I’m led into the office. They sit and I’m instructed to kneel on the floor beside the man.

“Michael Edwards, this is Mr. William Johns. He is looking for a long-term partner and I know that he can give you the guidance you need. Look him in the eyes and answer his questions,” she commands before turning the interview over to him.

Most Doms do not want eye contact. He’s different.

He is nice looking with a strong jaw line. His cologne is pleasant, smelling of some kind of spice. He looks over a folder in his hand, taking his time, letting me wait.

“Michael, most of your hard limits are things that I don’t do.” He pauses as he continues to read. “There are some things that you haven’t tried yet, you marked them as things you would be willing to have demanded of you. Is that correct?” He watches me closely.

“Yes, Sir,” I answer.

“If I demand something and you decide that you can’t tolerate it again, we can discuss changing it to a hard limit.”

This statement requires no reply but my stomach twists as I wonder what he’d like to demand from me. The room falls silent as he looks through the rest of my paperwork and places it back into my folder.

“You are looking for a full time placement and you are employed full time?” His voice is deep and gravelly. It has a sexy quality to it.

“Yes, Sir.”

“What type of work do you do?”

“I work for a construction company, Sir,” I reply. My nerves are increasing as this interview continues and I center myself again.

“If we decide to make this a long term partnership, will you be willing to quit your job?” he asks.

“Yes, Sir,” I answer, but I feel conflicted about it. It’s a great job for someone without an education.

“You’re nineteen?”

“Yes, Sir,” I reply.

“Would you be willing to attend college?”

“Yes, Sir.” This is a surprise. I’d given up the idea of going to college.

“Good,” he says.

“If I take you on as my submissive, my rules are not up for debate. I am very strict and trouble will not be tolerated. Punishments will be as severe as required and you knowingly agree to that?”

“Yes, Sir,” I answer. I need this from him and hope fills me unexpectedly. Until now I hadn’t realized how much I needed this. Why do I like the idea of being punished by this man? The idea that something might be wrong with me grows spontaneously.

He looks to Domme Shannon and nods.

“Michael, go wait in the hallway,” she commands.

“Yes, Ma’am,” I answer.

I take a place far enough from the door to allow private conversation. I stand at parade rest with my feet at shoulder width apart, my arms behind my back. They come out of the office half an hour later.

“Michael, gather your belongings. You’ve been accepted into the service of Mr. Johns. Do not disgrace me. You will not be accepted back here if you mess up this opportunity. Understand?”

“Yes, Ma’am,” I answer quickly. “Thank you.”

“You’ve done well and you deserve this. Don’t keep your Dominant waiting.”

I walk briskly to my room and grab my bags. I’ve had them packed since I was told I had an interview today. I hadn’t known what to expect. Another trainee stated that most males are taken by women. I don’t know if that was at their choosing or not. I hadn’t set any such parameters on mine. I wasn’t told until today that a man had been found for me. My feelings, though conflicted, are happy if I’m honest about it.

Carrying my bags, I find Mr. Johns waiting by the door.

“Come,” he says simply.

I follow him to a black SUV. Another man waits by the car and he opens the door for Mr. Johns before taking my bags. I wait as he opens the trunk and puts them inside. He then opens the other door for me.

Once in the back seat beside Mr. Johns I sit straight as I’ve been taught. The silence stretches and I begin to inspect my fingernails. It’s an old nervous habit. Mr. Johns’ hand covers mine, stopping my fidgeting. Electricity shoots through me and my breath catches.

“Look at me, boy,” he says and there is a subtle difference in his tone now, strong and demanding. “I expect eye contact unless I tell you otherwise, and no fidgeting or I’ll punish you.”

I meet his eyes for the second time. They are a deep blue and his dark brown hair has a slight curl to it. At a guess he’s in his early thirties. He looks a little like Liam Hemsworth, only more muscular. He is a handsome man.

“You will call me Sir or Mr. Johns. I will not repeat an order. You are to obey any command given immediately. I will give you a copy of the household rules when we get home. Failure to follow them will result in punishment whether you are aware of the rule or not. I suggest learning them quickly. I will add rules specific to you as I get to know you better. Do you understand me?”

“Yes, Sir.”

“Good,” he replies. “Do you have any questions?”

“Yes, Sir,” I answer. My voice sounds nervous even to me as I concentrate on not picking at my fingers. “I was wondering how I’m to pay for college if you want me to quit working?”

“I will pay for you to go to college,” he answers. “I want you to be well educated and you’re still a young man.”

“I’m not sure I would be comfortable with that, Sir,” I answer.

He nods. “You don’t need to be.”

My head is swimming. “I feel like a prostitute.”

“No, you’re not being paid for sex. I want you at home and I want you educated. It’s a win-win for us both. Don’t over think it. I’ll go over the classes with you and decide what will benefit my schedule.” He watches me silently for a few minutes. “I will not waste my time or yours if I feel this isn’t going to work out. Is that clear?”\

“Yes, Sir.” I wonder what else this arrangement will entail…

“Sit.” He turned on his heel. As Tiger Lily dropped to her knees on the floor, Peter shielded Wendy from her gaze. Something clinked and words were whispered between them. Shadows moved across the floor as Wendy left the room.

Moments passed and seemed like hours while Tiger Lily waited. She wished she’d kept her mouth shut and her aggravation to herself.

“Okay.” Footsteps padded on the floor beside her. Peter’s boots came into view and he squatted in front of her. “Michael and John will be here later. You’re going to have to be patient. I understand you’re hurting. They’ve been gone a while and played with another sub the last time they were here. I get it. But what happened is between the three of you. You’re going to have to tell them what you want. Change the contract, write up a new one, I don’t care, but leave me out of it.”

“Sir.” Tiger Lily couldn’t keep the pain out of her voice.

“Yes?”

“I wanted you to choose me.” There. She’d said it. She loved Michael and John, but since they were younger she’d wished Peter would’ve chosen her over Wendy. Tiger Lily needed him. Didn’t she?

“Lily, my heart chose Wendy a long time ago. I’ve done things for her I never thought I’d do. I love Wendy.” He curled his fingers under her chin. “But John and Michael love you. They helped another Dom, yes, but they love you.”

“Then why don’t they tell me?” Tears streaked down her cheeks. She balled her fists. “I have no idea how they feel. I’m a toy to them, not a person.”

“Then ask them where you stand.” Peter stood and folded his arms. Wendy crept into the room and put her arm around Tiger Lily.

“Those two… sometimes you need to be specific with them. They think they know what’s going on. John’s so smart and Michael’s heart is so big, but they miss things. They love you, I’m sure, just as I’m certain you love them.” She brushed Tiger Lily’s hair from her face. “Make them earn your love.”

Sometimes she didn’t care for Wendy very much. Other times, Tiger Lily liked having another sub to get what she was going through. She knew her men, but now she truly understood them. Yes, they’d helped train another sub, but they still cared about her. Now she needed to show them exactly what she wanted, too.

“Thank you, Sir. Thank you, Wendy.” Tiger Lily nodded. She knew exactly what to do — make her men beg.

#NewRelease – Transcending Fire @CRMoss @evernightpub #eroticromance #MCromance

Hello! It’s been quite some time since I’ve had a release, and now I can say all that’s changed. A big thank you to my host for allowing me to visit today and share my story Transcending Fire. This erotic, futuristic, dystopian story based around different motorcycle gangs has had quite a journey to get to this point. Perhaps one day I’ll share the two-plus-year jaunt this story went through to find a home. Luckily, it finally has. Even with all the trials it went through, I still love this story. It’s one of my favorites that I’ve written, and one that I didn’t get tired of during the editing process either. Yay!
A man dealing with an Earth in chaos. A woman from an alternate universe hoping to find her destiny. Two motorcycle gangs and a real bad ass who wants to ruin everything. What’s not to like?

TF-banner

~ Blurb ~

* Hunter Macario wants one thing—a place to belong. When given an opportunity to solidify his position in the motorcycle club, Devil’s Thunder, he takes it.
* Dragon’s Clan member, Safaia King, believes she’s found the man from her people’s legend and her dreams. She has one goal, even if he’s in a rival club—to make Hunter hers and keep him safe so he can fulfill their destiny.
* After Hunter makes a huge mistake, he’s sent to where Safaia lives—an alternate universe called The Den. In this new world, sex, battles, and secrets abound. Hunter must survive The Den to right some wrongs or else he could lose everything he’s ever gained, including his home and Safaia’s love.

TF-Hunter-teaser1

~ PG-13 Rated Excerpt ~

* The flames’ mesmerizing dance, the macabre song created by the crackles and pops, and the smell of death kept Hunter frozen to his spot. He wanted to help, knew he should pick up a bucketful of water or a hose and join the fray, but his immobile legs wouldn’t budge no matter the commands his brain sent them.
* There must be something in the smoke making me high. Either I really can’t move, or I’m losing my fucking marbles.
* He tried again to step forward, but still couldn’t.
* Ah, shit. I’m dreaming. Must be it. At least I hope that’s it.
* As if in answer to his thoughts, the world around him seemed to slow, become more surreal than it already was. The noises minimized into silence, yet people still rushed around him as if he were invisible, their mouths moving without voices emanating from them.
* Straight ahead, Hunter caught glimpses of a woman appearing and disappearing amongst the club members running back and forth in front of her. The ebony-haired beauty didn’t move. She stood there with a smile curling her lips.
* A hot, lusty bolt of desire surged straight to his cock. Yet beneath the instantaneous sensation lay something deeper. Dreaming or not, Hunter couldn’t quite put his finger on what he felt, but words like “connection” and “destiny” wisped across his mind.
* Their gazes locked. The lady winked and disappeared.
* The compound, except for the fire, was as it should be—club house, church, garage, barracks, factory, and some ancillary buildings—but the sky wasn’t gray. The constant hum from all the robotics and other machinery functioning in the city wasn’t present. He’d grown so accustomed to the white noise, the sudden silence almost hurt.
* Hunter shook his head, ran his palm over his face. Nothing seemed right anymore. The sky. The sounds. Even the air he breathed was different—lighter … less polluted.
* No one came up to him to check on him. Nobody questioned why he wasn’t helping.
* They all acted like he didn’t exist.
* Maybe I really don’t exist here. Maybe I’m still back in one of those foster homes and my life in Vegas has only been a fanciful dream.
* Nah. I’ve gotta be dreaming. I gotta…
* “Wake up, Hunter.”
* A weight bore down on Hunter’s shoulder, gripping his muscles like a pneumatic clamp.
* Even in a hazy state of mind, his instincts took over. Years of martial arts training had him shrugging out of the hold and spinning into a neutral stance, ready to defend and attack if need be. No matter what home he’d ended up in, he had always requested lessons. The type of discipline never mattered. The fact that he was learning a skill and had something of his own no one could take away from him had been all that’d counted.
* “Hey, boy.” Screw, an aging man, whose favorite way of dressing his scrawny body happened to be denim overalls, a bandana around his head holding back his stringy gray hair, and nothing else, held up his hands. “You know I’m a lover not a fighter.” He chuckled. “Too old and creaky to scuffle anyhow.”
* Hunter blinked. Gone was the blue sky and fire. The mechanized hum had returned as had the obsidian night. He stared at the head mechanic and lowered his arms. Last thing he’d ever want to do was harm the man he viewed as a father figure. “Screw. What? What’s going on?”
* “You tell me. You’re the one out here in your birthday suit.”
* “Birthday suit?” He glanced down at himself. Sure enough, he stood naked in the middle of the compound. “What the hell?”

Shaken and Stirred with a splash of dirty.

She’s not the one he wants…

Drew McKenna is obsessed with the woman who saved his family’s business. She’s the last woman he should want, but his dreams are flooded with the sultry, sexy woman who gets under his skin. He’d not prepared to end their lengthy riff just so he can give into his desire to have the gorgeous woman under him.

But she is the one he needs…

Glory Pierce gave up on Drew the second he flung vicious insults her way. The harder she tries to forget how deep those scars run, however, the more he invades her thoughts. When tragedy strikes, Glory is forced to put aside her anger and work with the man she despises. But as they mix business with pleasure, the heat between them reaches fever pitch, secrets are revealed, and passions are stirred up in ways neither of them can ignore.

Excerpt:

Glory exited her father’s room and leaned against the wall. Drawing in deep breaths, she closed her eyes and kept the tears at bay. It was so strange to see the strongest man she knew so vulnerable. Her father worked day in and day out with little time off. It was hard to equate him to the man in that room. Though Dr. Cooper had tried to sound optimistic, her gut told her otherwise. Her father might not make it and she had to reconcile herself to that fate.

She adjusted her duffle bag on her shoulder and headed toward the front exit. There was nothing for her do tonight and sleep was her best recourse. The next few days would be full of tasks she wasn’t ready to handle. But he’d left her in charge—for whatever reason—and she’d do everything possible to handle his affairs until he recovered. And she had to hope that he’d recover. But she didn’t like the thought that she could screw something up and he’d have to fix later.

Sadness and panic churned in her stomach at the possibility of losing him and what she’d have to face with the family either way. Most of the Pierce family thrived on drama and conflict. She’d escaped it when her folks divorced, but growing up, she’d still spent as much time with her father as he allowed. They didn’t always have the best relationship, due to the chaos Freddie and Tanya preferred to create whenever she was around, but she loved him. And she never questioned his love for her.

Her father had always been transparent in his views of her. He’d never had faith in her to carry on the tradition of the men in her family to become mayor, but he’d done his best she supposed. Every first-born child of the last five generations was male and she was an anomaly by the way her family carried on. And since they held the mayor occupancy in town, no one ever let her forget that she’d broken the lineage and would never carry on that importance. It wasn’t a shoe-in whenever there was an election, but for generations, her family held the most power in town. It saddened her that Freddie was the only one left now to task the job to. And his troublemaker ways and disregard for anyone but himself and his mother, did not go unnoticed. Most of the town prayed there’d be another person to go against Freddie if her father was no longer able to hold his post. There wasn’t much to be happy about with that scenario.

As she stepped outside, she breathed in deeply, filling her lungs with fresh air, and rolled her shoulders to relieve the tension. As always, her stepmother and the gossipmongers of her family never ceased to stress her out. She avoided every family gathering for the sake of her sanity, which always irritated her father. But, it was her only salvation against the nosey-nellies who never kept their noses out of her business.

“How’s your dad doing?”

Her heart rate kicked up a few notches. The last thing she needed was more of Drew McKenna tonight, dammit. Raw from the long-buried emotions about her father, having him around could only cause more chaos. And the usual heartache.

But damn if he wasn’t hell-to-the-oh-my-god sexy as he leaned against his Harley. Arms crossed, biceps bulged beneath the sleeves of his t-shirt tucked into the waistband of his blue jeans. It appeared multiple finger swipes pushed his hair back to maintain the untamable ringlets that fell over his forehead and curled around his ears. Those sexy strands were one of the best things she loved most.

Love? Ugh, as if, lady. Speak for yourself.

Glory shoved the nagging voice away, unwilling to handle such nonsense tonight.

“Why are you still here?”

He shrugged. “Thought I’d offer you a ride home.”

“I don’t need your charity, Drew. Since when do you care what I do?” As soon as the words left her mouth, she wanted to eat them back again. Like a bull poked, his nostrils flared as usual and reminded her that their tumultuous but civil relationship always ended in an argument. And too much resentment.

“Let’s not do this again.” Drew stood, and waved a hand at his back seat. “You’ve had a long night, you’re worried for your old man, and I’m too damn exhausted to go toe-to-toe with you, Glory. For once, please shut up. Can we put aside whatever keeps us at one another’s throat for one night?”

Surprised, her jaw fell open and her eyes widened. Had Drew McKenna sounded reasonable and mature? A foreign impression in the years she’d known him, but she supposed he had a point. Over a decade of combating with him was now tiresome. How she’d allowed it to go on for so long was ridiculous, but wearing her coat of armor against him was her only defense.

“Are you coming or not?” He sat astride the bike, a second helmet in his hand and extended toward her.

“I’m only doing this because my car is in the shop and too tired to wait for a cab. You better not get me killed on this contraption, McKenna. I swear, I’ll haunt your ass forever if you do.” Glory grabbed the helmet and placed it on her head, then adjusted the strap beneath her chin. She moved closer, made sure her duffle bag was over both shoulders was tight, and lifted one leg over the seat.

“You haunt me now, woman, but don’t worry, you’re safe with me.” The engine cut out many of his words and Glory wasn’t sure what he meant about haunting him, but she’d had to have heard him wrong. Her gut instincts knew better than to trust him.

“Ready?” he glanced back at her.

After a hard swallow, she set her hands at his waist. Her body shivered as his warmth curled around her fingers.

“You have to hold on tighter than that, doll.” Drew grabbed both her wrists and dragged her forward until her chin hit his back. She crossed her arms at the front of his waist and held on.

The bike vibrated beneath her as he gunned the engine and roared through the parking lot and into the streets.

Her nipples tightened beneath her bra as she rested against his hot back and his enjoyable rich aroma of sandalwood wafted into her nose. Glory leaned a cheek on his shoulder, closed her eyes and blocked out the buildings rushing by. His potent scent reminded her of one night, so long ago.

A memory that never stopped breaking her heart. No matter how much she tried, it played in her head over and over, when she least expected it and left her vulnerable and aching. With her forehead on his back, the vibration of the machine beneath her ass pulsed through her. Shit. A reminder of how long it had been since she’d been with a man was the last thing she needed. Though her dating life sucked and there had been a couple men in her life over the last decade, she’d hoped the heartbreaking memories would fade quickly. But the more she wished to forget the past, the less and less pleasure she found in dating because she couldn’t erase the memories.

During the nights at Controlled Iris—as she succumbed to her voyeuristic tendencies that appeased her well enough—never stopped her from going back again and again. The small solace of pleasure she sought there kept her sane with the unattended needs and hunger coursing through her often. One exciting night a decade ago had ruined her for life. She wanted the same thrill of pleasure and the powerful delirious ecstasy again. But it was unattainable.

He was unattainable.

Nothing compared to that one night. And while Controlled Iris fed a few of her baser needs and fetishes, it wasn’t enough. Though it wasn’t a place of orgies or bondage or chains and whips, Controlled Iris opened their doors for those who loved to watch, but not engage. Through glass windows or up on balconies looking into each room, those who entered could witness the carnal appetites of others. Patrons weren’t allowed to join in the sex, only to witness the bliss of voyeurism and the thrill of being a peeping Tom—or Thomasina in her case.

Though she had no trouble getting herself off, Controlled Iris pushed her harder and drove her faster to the edge of pleasure for when she returned home. Role playing and the uninhibited prowess of each person, men and women, showed her more about sex than she’d ever thought possible. One night of pleasure did not make her an expert in any way, and CI filled her curiosity.

She lifted her head when the bike came to a halt. So lost in her thoughts, she’d missed the short ride home. Drew shut off the engine. He slid off the bike, undid the helmet and handed it to him. He scooted back and got off.

“No need to stick around.”

“Not even a cup of coffee to repay me for going out of my way?”

Glory rolled her eyes and started up the porch steps. “You don’t drink coffee and I didn’t ask for the ride, you offered. Good night, Drew.” As if fire chased her, she hustled to her front door and stuck the key in the lock.

“We should talk, Glory,” his voice filled her left ear, and startled her. She whipped around, and found herself pressed against the door. Shit. She didn’t need to get trapped by him tonight.

“You’re too close. Back off. And we have nothing to discuss.” Body quivering from his closeness, she gazed up into his dark eyes. Lightheaded, Glory inhaled a shaky breath deep into her lungs. How evil was it to tempt her with such deliciousness when her heart and soul already ached from ripping emotions?

“Haven’t we done this Mr. and Mrs. Smith thing long enough?”

“Really, dude?” she scoffed. “That’s what you compare us to? Two gun-wielding married assassins who lie to one another? When have I ever lied to you?” Glory didn’t know if the comparison was accurate or not. They weren’t married, and they weren’t assassins either, but the sexual chemistry and tension between the Smith duo was always tumultuous and charged with chaos. She supposed there was justification for that comparison.

Drew crowded in on her, and she lifted her hands to his chest. Her knees shook as the heat of his skin beneath his shirt warmed her palms. The motherfucker didn’t play fair.

“I’m not the only one who gets turned on whenever we’re around each other. And you can’t deny it.”
