Review: Stargazer (Evernight, Book 2)

Stargazer (Evernight #2)

Stargazer by Claudia Gray

rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was a little disappointed with the ending, but at the same time I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.

Overall, it was even better than Evernight, and I didn’t think that was possible. While there was still the emotional relationship between Bianca and Lucas, we got to see quite a bit more of Balthazar. I found myself wondering where his story was going to next by the end of the book. I can understand the feelings Bianca has for Lucas, but part of me wishes that she would give Balthazar a chance; a real chance. With her slowly turning into a vampire, it makes more sense for her to be with someone like Balthazar than with a vampire hunter.

Exciting news!!

March 24, 2009 at 2:54 am (Uncategorized)

My 2nd review for We Write Romance was just accepted and will be posted to their site during their next web update. :)   I’ve had a lot of fun reviewing books that I’ve read recently and it’s exciting to have it posted somewhere.

Satin and Lace Reviews has also accepted a few reviews from me and has posted them to their site this month… I hope to work with them more in the near future.

My other exciting news is that I’ve been accepted by LASR to do reviews for their romance and erotic romance groups.  I haven’t finished the “paperwork” aspect, but hope to start doing reviews for them by this weekend.

So if you’re an author needing a review, and with a publisher other than Wild Horse Press or Hearts on Fire Books, feel free to contact me about a review.  LASR and We Write Romance aren’t picky about whether the book is submitted through them prior to being reviewed… so if you have a new release, drop me a line!

Lissa has travelled to a small town in southern Georgia to complete her latest novel.  Having rented an antebellum plantation for the next six months, she hopes to find the peace she needs in order to meet her deadline.  However, she didn’t count on sharing her temporary home with the resident ghost.

Jesse has been dead for almost one hundred years.  In all of his time on earth, both living and spectral, he has never met anyone like Lissa.  If he had a heart, it would have stopped beating the moment he saw her.  Why couldn’t this passionate, beautiful, talented woman have come along while he was still alive?  Jesse would love nothing more than to take Lissa into his arms and kiss her senseless.

No matter how hot Jesse may be, Lissa realizes she can’t have a relationship with a ghost.  During a trip to town, she meets local bank owner, Jared.  The sinfully handsome banker sweeps Lissa off her feet.  He claims to love her and wants her to move permanently to the small town of Maple Falls.  Things heat up quickly between the two, leaving Lissa confused over whether its love or lust that is drawing them together.

When Jared finds out that Lissa casts spells and frequents a magick shop will he still stand by her side?  Or will the hint of scandal send him running the other way?

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a great book to read.  This book will keep you interested from page one all the way to the last page. You will find yourself draw into the lives of the characters. You will find that Lissa is torn between her feelings for a ghost and her feelings for Jared. Who will win her love? This is one book that you don’t want to miss out on.

Review: Seduced

Sir Damien Lockett had the world at his feet. He came from a good family and had the kind of charm that all of the ladies fell for, all but one.  His pursuit of Rosalie would be his downfall.  Little did he know there was more to the lady than met the eye – she was a creature of the night, feeding of f the blood of others.  Rosalie calls Damien to her house one night.  Chaining him to her bed, she feeds off of him, turning him.  When he awakens no longer human, but a hunter, a predator of the night, he’s confused and wishes that Rosalie had simply let him die.

Present day… Damien has led a destructive, murderous life.  He’s incapable of feeling, of loving.  Then he runs across a human, Aleana, who stirs something awake within him.  He watches her, frozen in place whenever she’s near, unable to understand what it is about this mere human that incapacitates him each and every time. It’s both mesmerizing and frightening, the effect she has on him.  He needs her, wants her as he has never wanted a woman before, but also fears her power over him.  He still has a need, a desire for the beautiful Rosalie, but it’s different from what feelings the human unearths in him.

Aleana and Damien both have relationships that don’t end well.  When Aleana’s boyfriend leaves her, she feels alone, hurt, and broken.  Being with Damien, she starts to heal a little bit at a time.  She thinks she’s falling in love with him, but one day she discovers what Damien truly is – a creature of the night, a vampire.  Once she comes to grips with that fact, she realizes that regardless of what or who he is, he’s the man she loves and she can’t live without him.

While Damian has dark thoughts and actions (vampire – duh!), it’s easy to fall in love with him and cheer him on in his quest to make Aleana fall in love with him.  The story is well written and the author’s descriptions bring the characters to life.  Ms. Beckham created a unique story, which is a difficult task in a time when vampires run rampant amongst the bookshelves.

Review: Charade

Charade

Charade by J. O. Parks
rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

The story was well-written and had me hooked from beginning to end; it was easy to fall in love with the characters. Pamela faces a lot of insecurities that women deal with on a daily basis, but in the end she was able to over-come them all with the love of a good man, a man who always saw her for the jewel that she was. J. O. Parks has created a delightful tale that I wouldn’t mind reading again.

Review: My Man Michael

March 12, 2009 at 8:30 pm (Writing, author) (, , )

My Man Michael (SBC Fighters, Book 4)

My Man Michael by Lori Foster
rating: 4 of 5 stars

While I am not typically a fan of futuristic books, I was pleasantly surprised with this one. As a fan of Lori Foster, I figured if anyone could pull it off it would be her.

Michael Manchester, Mallet, is laid up in the hospital after an accident. His fighting career ended, he’s desolate and unsure of what to do with his life.

Kayli shows up from a time in the future claiming she can heal Michael’s wounds, for a price of course. If he goes back to the future with her and trains the warriors of her colony, she will make him whole again.

Not able to pass up the opportunity to have full use of his legs again, not to mention that he thinks Kayli is a total hottie, Michael agrees – thinking that she has to be joking and he’ll wake up at any moment.  Finding himself in an unfamiliar land with technology beyond his wildest dreams, Michael faces the reality that he has indeed travelled to the future. Fighting to change the colony’s rules and procedures, Michael ends up falling in love with Kayli.

This book is a remarkable journey through self-growth, learning, and compromise. The future may hold all sorts of wonders, but they still have their issues that need to be resolved. If you enjoy stepping out of reality, you’ll love this story!

Review: Man of Her Dreams

March 12, 2009 at 2:10 am (Uncategorized)

Man of Her Dreams

Man of Her Dreams by Paige Warren

rating: 4 of 5 stars
New to contemporary erotic romance, Paige Warren was a pleasant surprise. Her short story is fast paced and very H O T! Let’s just say you’ll need a bucket of ice or a cold shower on stand-by when you read her delightful tale.

!!!! SPOILER ALERT !!!!

Sienna Blake, a librarian, has lusted after Logan Drake for a long time. Not moving in the same social circles has made it impossible for her to get a chance to know him. Then again, she’s a bit on the reserved side so that’s probably for the best.

An entrepreneur, Logan has made millions by designing unique bookstores in the Southern California area. Dating models and starletts is getting old pretty fast. When he meets Sienna, she’s a breath of fresh air compared to the women he’s been seeing. Not to mention that he gets a boner everytime he’s near her.

The two manage to get together and things heat up really fast. As they burn up the sheets, and the pages, the reader is drawn into a budding relationship. While sex may be the first thing on their minds, it doesn’t take long for these two to discover they love each other.

Review: Night of the Loving Dead

March 12, 2009 at 1:36 am (Reading)

Night of the Loving Dead: A Pepper Martin Mystery

Night of the Loving Dead: A Pepper Martin Mystery by Casey Daniels

rating: 5 of 5 stars
Casey Daniels has done it again! As always Pepper Martin is sassy, funny, spunky and sarcastic…. all the qualities I love in a heroine. True, she gets herself into a bit of trouble, but what fun would the novel be without that?

My review

The ability to communicate with the dead wasn’t something that Pepper asked for, it just sort of happened to her. But, she’s coping… Ghosts keep popping up and asking her for favors. In this latest Pepper Martin mystery, the ghost isn’t as sweet as she may seem, she has a hidden agenda. But when that hidden agenda brings the light to Pepper’s eyes when it comes to a certain hunky guy, maybe that isn’t such a bad thing.

Over all, this was one of the best Pepper Martin books to date! I can’t wait to see what Ms. Daniels will come up with next!
